I wrote an article on my blog on how to step up these settings to what should have been the default: "How to configure avast! 2014 for maximum protection!" (google this to see it)ģ) The testing of avast! free vs avast! Endpoint has been on ongoing debate for years. I would like to see a poll (reputable) where the pay version of Avast is tested.ġ) There is no free lunch, you just haven't figured out how your not paying yet!Ģ) The defaults of avast! free are horrible. In most polls all I see is the Avast free.

The latter does not effectively speak for the performance of the software itself.
Symantec endpoint protection 14 vs avast install#
Add to that the fact that you will most likely be spending so much time cleaning up viruses that you won't have time to install your new computer hardware and I think you will come to regret the decision immensely.Dalton definitely understand what you are saying here "you get what you pay for" however there are 2 pieces of "free" Avast software we are referring to:Īvast Free Home version - which is what is appearing in those polls listedĪvast Endpoint Protection - which is NOT free, however can be severely reduced cost/free for non-profits or schools Avast may free up money for other things, but in a setting like a school where you have lots of kids and teachers bringing in things from home, Sophos is going to protect you from things that Avast won't. Sophos had absolutely no issues removing viruses from our organization and continues to impress us with its ability to automatically remove viruses. My organization switched this year from Symantec to Sophos due to a LOT of virus and spyware issues that the most up-to-date version of Symantec (at that time) simply couldn't deal with. The old adage of "You get what you pay for" comes to mind.

In my experience Avast is free for a reason.
